Baths of Caracalla, admired today only for its ruins, remain the largest and the most evocative of Rome. Constructed at the time of Caracalla’s rule, from 212 to 217, then finished by Heliogabalus (also known as Elagabalus), although seven thermal establishments already existed and operated well within the imperial capital. The ensemble, with its looks of a fortress, 220 m long, 214 m wide, comprises a frigidarium, a caldarium, a trepidarium, wardrobes, gyms, meeting rooms and other chambers destined for different services.
