The slump between the Palatino, the Capitoline and the Esquiline was once the business point, called the Forum Magnum at the beginning of Rome’s rise to power. Later, the Romans constructed temples and streets around it (The Viscus Tuscus, the Clivus Argentarius, the Argiletum). Starting from 3 centuries B.C., the Forum became a centerpoint of the Roman public life and the heart of the Empire, until the day of its fall, when the capital was transferred to Ravena. Fallen into the hands of barbarism, oblivion, negligence and ignorance, the place was abandoned during long centuries, hidden from the eyes until the 18th century. Getting through the ruins on the present day, we can, with a little bit of imagination and a touch of science, imagine the Roman Forum in its ancient splendor.
