About this photo...
The first Pantheon was erected following the demand of General Marcus Agrippa, son-in-law of Augustus, in year 27 B.C. Destroyed by a fire in year 80 A.D., the philosopher emperor Hadrian rebuilt it for the second time, between 118 and 125, and since then it remains the most famous Roman landmark in Europe. It’s indeed the one we’re admiring in the present day, best conserved, whose inscription still bears Agrippa’s name. For the French, Agrippa was the one who constructed the Aquaeduct of Nîmes – now called the Pont du Gard. This photo has been viewed 4437 times
