The exhibition “De-materialisation” at Roma Gallery, seeks to open a channel between materialism and its spiritual dimension in modern art. By deconstructing the “physicality” of a piece of art, can we come closer to its interpretation? Can we deeper understand its creator? Can we penetrate its phenomenology? For Kant, the symbolic meaning of matter, far exceeds its physicality. Note: “The physicality of matter, constitutes one of the sensory oversights, which synthesize its empirical understanding, while its symbolic meaning becomes the final canal which allows man to mentally perceive reality. On the other hand, Hegel refers to physical matter, which combines content and shape while it’s in direct antithesis with intellect and spirit. Later, Marx, through his intellectual materialism, he reverses the duality of matter and its content, giving it a broader sense, which doesn’t refer just to its physical properties, but it also considers the cause of creation of the apparent reality, because it precedes, and is in a dialectical relationship with, spirit. However, the most up to date observation comes from Ernst Cassirer, that in the era of science, men are prone to mystic thinking. In the end, the spirit takes its revenge in any way possible. |
